Diana & Marvin

Eight months after the death of her dear friend Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross would hit the charts with a heartfelt dedication to the soul legend.

On December 1, 1984 Diana Ross’ “Missing You” would enter Billboard’s Top 100. The song, written and produced by Lionel Richie, would peak at #1 on the R&B charts and #10 pop. Ross and Richie conceived the song after a conversation about their former Motown Records labelmate, who was shot to death by his father on April 1, 1984. Ross and Gaye recorded a duets album, Diana & Marvin, in 1973.
