On November 11, 1978 Donna Summers’ cover of Richard Harris’ “MacArthur Park” was the the #1 song in the country. The song which is named after MacArthur Park, a park in Los Angeles, California, was originally recorded by Harris in 1968 to crowd-pleasing success. It was a hit at home and abroad for Harris. Topping charts in Europe. Summers’ disco version topped that ten years later by spending three weeks at #1 on the pop charts.
