Ike Turner: Underrated Success

Ike Turner

To some Ike Turner is remembered as a bad boy of soul music, but the Rock and Roll hall of famer has done his share of good for music.

Born in Mississippi on November 5th 1931, Ike Wister Turner began his career as a member of The Kings of Rhythm. Turner found marginal success with the Kings, but he’d become a household name when he recorded “Fool In Love” in 1960 with his better half Anna Mae Bullock, a.k.a Tina Turner. Despite their turbulent relationship, Ike and Tina went on to make timeless soul/R&B classics.

The Grammy award winner is widely regarded as producing the first rock n roll song, “Rocket 88.”

Turner passed away in December 2007 from a reported cocaine overdose.
