Jill Scott Sued By Record Label
By Rondell Conway -
Jill Scott is about to go to court to fight for freedom, thanks to a lawsuit filed by her label Hidden Beach. Jill wants out, but the label won’t let her go without a fight.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, R&B/soul singer Jill Scott has been sued by her longtime label Hidden Beach. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by L.A.-based Hidden Beach Records, claims that Scott dumped the label October after a 10-plus year relationship. The label’s founder Steve McKeever who helped launch Scott’s career is not going dwn without a fight.
“Hidden Beach is shocked by her decision not only because Scott has apparently chosen to leave the Hidden Beach family,” the complaint reads, “but also because Scott is contractually required to deliver three more albums to Hidden Beach.”
Hidden Beach claims Jill ended the relationship despite them doing everything in their power to make her happy. The label says they even agreed to her request to slow her recording schedule to allow her to pursue an acting career?
The label’s layer added: “Hidden Beach feels that Jill Scott is an incredibly talented artist,” lawyer Lawrence Hinkle told The Hollywood Reporter. ”No one regrets that this lawsuit had to be filed more than Hidden Beach, but its hands were tied and it had no other option.”
Sounds like Jill has outgrown her little label and is ready to move on to bigger and better things. C’mon Hiden Beach! I know breaking up is hard to do, but Let Jill Go!
