Junior Walker: An All-Star Act

Soul music and Motown Records lost one of its true all-star performers when Junior Walker lost his battle with cancer 14 years ago today.

Junior Walker died on November 23, 1995 in Battle Creek, Michigan of cancer at the age of 64. Walker was the master sax player and leader of the popular Motown Records group, Junior Walker & The All-Stars. The group’s signature hit was “Shotgun”, written by Walker and produced by Berry Gordy. The song reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #1 on the R&B chart. Other hits from the group include “(I’m A) Road Runner”, “Shake and Fingerpop,” “Come See About Me,” “What Does It Take (To Win Your Love),” and “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)”. “Shotgun” was inducted int the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 2002.
