K’Jon Debuts In Top 20 On Charts
By Rondell Conway
R&B/soul newcomer K’Jon continues to make a splash on the charts as his new album I Get Around debuted at No. 12 on Billboard’s 200.
K’Jon’s quiet run up music charts is not so quiet anymore. The Universal Republic soul singer debuted at No. 12 on Billboard’s 200 with 33,000 albums sold last week. Lead by the sultry single “On The Ocean” I Get Around has been receiving quality reviews from music critics. USA Today praised it for avoiding “thuggish lover cliches, focusing instead on such themes as family, relationships and dreams, both deferred and realized.”
A humbled K’Jon told singersroom.com that staying away from the norm comes naturally.
“I’m a big believer in establishing your identity, but first and foremost knowing who you are before you try and win over others.”
And he thanked the people behind the scenes.
“I thank everyone on the Universal Republic team for letting this album be that introduction. I also thank all my fans. A lot of my songs speak to the notion about working your dream from the ground up, and they have been a big inspiration to me. I’m grateful for the opportunity, and excited about where the journey is headed next.”
Congrats to K’Jon. If you can go out and get the album. Alot of quality tunes. A great change of pace, soulful listen.
