Maxwell’s BLACKsummers’night has proven to be worth the wait. After a 8 year hiatus the soul singer is back atop the Billboard charts at #1

Today is a day for neo-soulsters and R&B aficionados to celebrate as the prodigal son has returned to the top of the charts. According to Billboard.com, Maxwell’s BLACKsummers’night debuted at #1 by selling 316,000 copies. This is Maxwell’s highest selling album ever, and his second consecutive #1 debut, 2001’s “Now,” topped charts with 296,000 copies sold.

As custom, the soul singer celebrated and thanked fans via his Twitter page.

“BLACKsummers’night is the #1 ALBUM in the COUNTRY! THANK YOU 4 making it HAPPEN! I can’t IMAGINE the # if we had more RECORDS in STORES!”

“thank you to COLUMBIA records and 2 all of the wonders on the RECORD! we DID it w/ YOUR help w/ your LOVE! P.S. JOHN 3:16!”

A happy day for Maxwell and his fans indeed. To celebrate let’s take it back to where it all started.
