Patti LaBelle: A Pop Star Is Born
Already a staple act among R&B/soul circles, Patti LaBelle would become a pop sensation thanks to the release of two singles recorded for the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack.
On February 9, 1985 Patti LaBelle hit the charts with the pop smash “New Attitude.” The single, which was featured on the soundtrack for Eddie Murphy’s blockbuster film Beverly Hills Cop, eventually reached #17 on the Pop charts and #1 Dance. After making her mark in R&B/soul as a member of The LaBelles, and finding solo success with her 1983 album I’m In Love Again, Ms Patti was now a certified pop star.
