Sometimes a woman’s got to do, what a woman’s got to do. So when Shirley Brown decided to have a conversation with the “other woman,” R&B fans were all ears.
On November 16, 1974 Shirley Brown’s “Woman To Woman” was the #1 R&B record in the country. A staple of the 70’s soul “story song” fad the single is known for the opening telephone conversation between Brown and her husband’s mistress, Barbara. Brown an Arkansas native recorded the song on Memphis’ Stax Records.
