Sly & The Family Stone: Something For The People
During a period of racial tension in the late 1960’s the San Francisco based soul/rock band Sly & The Family Stone made a inspirational plea for peace and equality.
On November 30, 1968 Sly & The Family Stone’s “Everyday People” would enter Billboard’s Top 100. The groovy radio friendly single, which was a departure from the group’s usual funky, psychedelic sound, eventually made it to #1 on the charts for four weeks.
The single went on to become the most covered song in the band’s catalog, with versions by Aretha Franklin, The Staple Singers, Joan Jett, The Supremes and The Four Tops, among many others. 90’s hip-hop group Arrested Development flipped the tune for their 1992 hit, “People Everyday.”
